The BURRIER family, before arriving in Mâconnais in late 19th century, has been cultivating vines in Beaujolais since the 15th century. During the French Revolution, Pierre-Etienne BURRIER (1743-1824) became the first Mayor of Saint-Symphorien-d'Ancelles, a small wine village adjacent to Moulin-à-Vent. His grandson Pierre-Antoine BURRIER (1815-1889) succeeded him as Mayor, but also as a winemaker, cooper and wine merchant. In 1872, his son, other Pierre-Antoine BURRIER (1843-1910), married Joséphine TOURNISSOUX (1852-1932), heiress to a property (hamlet of Poncié) and vineyards in Fleurie (5 ha) and Moulin à Vent (2 ha) , which are still nowadays owned by Château de Beauregard. Through Domaine Joseph Burrier, established in 2007, we consolidated our Beaujolais vineyards in acquiring some new parcels in Moulin à Vent and four additional crus: Juliénas ‘Beauvernay’, Chiroubles ‘Saint Roch’, Morgon ‘Grand Cras’ and Saint Amour ‘Côte de Besset’.
In 2017 we completed a whole renovation of our houses and winery in Fleurie, now totally dedicated to the winemaking of all our red wines. A spectacular tasting room and a terrace have been built to fully enjoy the magnificent panoramic view looking upon the vineyards of Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent. All the wine of Domaine Joseph Burrier are organic certified since vintage 2021.
