The wine reveals a deep ruby color, with aromas of plum, black cherry and spices. The palate is full-bodied, complex and spicy (pepper, clove), with a texture of smooth tannins and a slightly wild finish.
The Beaujolais wine-growing hillsides are located in the extreme south of Burgundy, between Mâcon and Villefranche-sur-Saône, on the right bank of the Saône. The Morgon PDO covers an area of 1100 ha, between Fleurie and Brouilly, on eponymous granite and schist soils that are largely decomposed (this type of soil is commonly called 'Morgon'). In 2007, Domaine Joseph Burrier acquired a one-hectare vineyard on the Climat 'Grand Gras'. At the foot of the 'Côte de Py', on the southern edge of the Appellation, 'Grand Cras' is a slightly eastward-sloping, very sunny hillside, formed by the accumulation of fairly deep scree of decomposed schist and granite, fairly light and well drained thanks to the good stoniness and low clay content. The fairly dark soils warm up well and promote good ripening. Domaine Joseph Burrier's vineyards have been farmed organically since 2019 and certified by Ecocert since 2021.
