History

since 1854

Château de Beauregard has been owned by our family since 1854. First with François DESHAIRES (1814-1890) and his son Joseph DESHAIRES (1850-1929), who passed it on to his only daughter Jeanne, wife of Marc BURRIER (1873-1915). Then the Estate came to Marc’s son, Joseph BURRIER (1902-1983), who passed it on to his children and their descendants, current owners. On behalf of the BURRIER family, the following managers were successively Jacques BURRIER (1937-2021), then Frédéric Marc BURRIER, current CEO. The 7th generation has just arrived at the estate to keep going the family story.

Historic heart of Pouilly-Fuissé

Château du Clos is located in the heart of 'POUILLY', the hamlet of the village of Solutré-Pouilly that gave its name to the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Since the 18th century, Chardonnay was already cultivated in POUILLY and produced wines of comparable reputation to those of Côte d'Or. Château du Clos has been owned by the family COMBIER since 1782. The current owner Jean-François COMBIER is the 8th generation owning the Château, and one of his ancestors was Léonard CHANDON. Léonard’s brother, Pierre-Gabriel, married Adélaïde MOET, and was at the origin of the famous Champagne House. From vintage 2012, Jean-François COMBIER entrusted the vines culture, the winemaking in the Chateau’s cellars and the exclusive distribution of Château du Clos to Maison Joseph BURRIER.

OUTSTANDING TERROIR AND ORGANIC VITICULTURE

Château du Clos is one of the few estates in the Mâconnais region to be fully certified organic. A path taken in 2009 and officially recognized in 2013, making it one of the very first vineyards in the region to obtain this certification. The 3-hectare vineyard is a veritable clos bourguignon surrounding the Château, consisting mainly of Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 'POUILLY' (2 ha), as well as Pouilly-Fuissé (0.75 ha) and Mâcon Solutré-Pouilly (0.25 ha). The average age of the vines is over 50 years, and some plots were planted before the Second World War. Its clay and scree soils on limestone marl are ideal for producing great white Burgundy wines, which are complex, intense and long-lasting.
