Juliénas 'Beauvernay' has a style far removed from the Appellation's usual clichés: a deep, almost black ruby color, a complex bouquet of stewed red and black fruits (cherry, plum, strawberry) and peony; a generous, opulent, slightly licorice and spicy palate; silky tannins combine with a fresh finish to ensure long ageing potential.
The Beaujolais wine-growing hillsides are located in the extreme south of Burgundy, between Mâcon and Villefranche-sur-Saône, on the right bank of the Saône. The Juliénas appellation covers some 580 ha, mainly in the commune of Juliénas, but also in Jullié and Pruzilly. Climat 'Beauvernay' is located in Jullié, a little way from the heart of the Appellation, on a steep, south-west-facing hillside at 350 m altitude, with soils of grey-blue, sandy and stony schist of volcanic origin. The nature of these soils and this topography are conducive to the production of a deep, dense and structured Juliénas, complex and capable of ageing for several years. The Domaine Joseph Burrier vineyards have been farmed organically since 2019 and certified by Ecocert since 2021.
