Its exceptional altitude gives our Chiroubles 'Saint Roch' a style dominated by balance and freshness: a deep ruby color; a bouquet evocative of ripe fruit and red berries (cherry, blackberry, redcurrant); a complex, supple, gourmet palate, with hints of spice and a long, silky finish.
The Beaujolais wine-growing hillsides are located in the extreme south of Burgundy, between Mâcon and Villefranche-sur-Saône, on the right bank of the Saône. The Chiroubles appellation covers 370 ha between the Fleurie and Morgon crus. Chiroubles is unjustly overlooked for its exceptional terroir: the highest (up to 600 m!) and steepest of the 10 Beaujolais crus. It's also the only cru with exclusively granite soils. Saint Roch', with its little chapel, is a recognized climat of the appellation, situated at an altitude of 500 m on an east-south-east facing slope. Here, Gamay is at its best on sandy, stony granite soils that are not clayey and shallow. The Domaine Joseph Burrier vineyards have been farmed organically since 2019 and certified by Ecocert since 2021.
