Our Chénas 'Les Darroux' reveals a deep ruby, almost crimson color. Floral notes combine with spicy ones (white pepper). On the palate, ripe tannins support concentrated red fruit aromas (redcurrant, strawberry). Clean, slightly iodized finish.
We're in southern Burgundy, in the Beaujolais region, and Chénas is one of the region's 10 most discreet crus, despite its obvious quality. Along with Saint Amour, they are located in the extreme north of Beaujolais, on the border with Burgundy. The name comes from an ancient "Chênaie" (oak grove) that once covered most of the village's territory. Total PDO area: 270 ha. The village of Chénas also produces some of the finest Moulin à Vent. Most of the terroirs are sandy, worn granite, also known as "Gore", quite rich in iron oxides, which contribute to the deep, beautiful color of the wines.
